Set Sail, Celebrate Life, Support Hospice PDF Print E-mail

Even though buckets of rain fell late on Saturday, August 22 during the 11th annual Hospice Regatta at Rochester Yacht Club, it didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm.

Kiki Werner of Rochester Yacht Club won the Hospice Regatta Champion trophy by finishing first overall in the Spinnaker Fleet. Click here for the series results for the Spinnaker divisions. Click here for the overall results for the Spinnaker Fleet.

As the overall winner of the Hospice Regatta, Werner earns an invitation to the Hospice Regattas National Championship for 2010, which will be hosted by RYC the first weekend in June.

Bob MacIntyre of Genesee YC, owner and skipper of “Double Shot,” won the Hildebrandt Spirit Award, presented annually to the boat whose skipper and crew raise the largest amount of donations to Hospice. MacIntyre and his family and crew raised more than $6,500. He also received a Jim Ely Memorial Award for exceeding the $20,000 threshold in cumulative fundraising.

More than 700 people attended the Regatta Cruise and Clambake (Friday, August 21) and the Regatta Party (Saturday), and hundreds of names and messages were written onto the 2009 Memorial Sail. Proceeds from the event are expected to exceed $50,000 to support the efforts of Lifetime Care Hospice in improving end-of-life care in the Rochester/Finger Lakes area.
